Eleven years after Robert Downey Jr’s fantastic role in Iron Man (2008), twenty-two films later Marvel Studios finally released Avengers: Endgame on 26th April. This epic showdown between the Avengers and the mad titan, Thanos, has been referred to as the ‘end of an era’, leaving fans in tears as they watch the characters fight in order to fix the drastic outcomes of the previous film in the franchise, Avengers: Infinity War. Endgame has already proved to be one of the most popular films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having grossed $1.2 Billion on its opening weekend, although there has already been mixed reviews.
Speaking as a fan, Endgame is by far the most important film in the saga, revealing the outcomes of previous films and answering questions, which have been left unanswered for years. Not only does the film have the original outstanding cast including Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, almost every character in the MCU up to this point features. This is amazing for fans to see their favourite characters on screen throughout. However, although this film is made well, it has some twists and turns which are unexpected and may leave you in tears…
Throughout the filming and marketing of the Endgame, very little spoilers or trailers have been released, leaving the audience in mystery, not knowing what to expect when going into the cinema. However, fans are able to understand that there is an element of time-travel present by piecing together trailers and promotion images. The Russo Brothers, who directed the film as well as directing Avengers: Infinity War, have taken careful consideration to ensure that no spoilers have been released beforehand (meaning they limited the amount of press done by cast members previously known to provide these spoilers *cough* Tom Holland *cough*).
But overall, despite the amazing cast, graphics and storyline, this film is a rollercoaster filled with excitement, sadness and anger, leaving you wish you’d never seen it, as it truly is an end of an era.
