I would like to start off by saying that it was excellent and definitely lived up to the expectations of other reviews stating that it would be. But from entering the cinema, I knew that the film was going to be excellent, as it was a Disney film. I feel that since Marvel has been acquired by Disney, their superhero films have just stepped up a level, not only with regards to their storylines but the graphics too. So, based on this improvement on the Marvel films, I expected the film to be outstanding – and it was.
The film is about a prince of a fictional country in Africa called Wakunda, in which the King of Wakunda (his father) died leaving him to take on the responsibility of being king of the country. But he faces some problems in his quest to become king as not everyone shares the view that he should be king, resulting in the throne being overtaken and in him having to fight in order to reclaim the throne and the Black Panther title. There are definitely some surprises in the film that I did not expect, which only added to its brilliance.
The cast was an absolute credit to the film. One of the major characters in the film was in the 2014 film 12 Years a Slave. This was Lupita Nyong, who played the part of the Black Panther’s past and future love interest. She played the part excellently, representing African women beautifully, as she also did in 12 Years a Slave. Her outstanding defiance and strength in both films represent women of all cultures perfectly. I thought that the actress who played the part of the head of the Wakandian army was also played extremely well. I especially liked the fact that the warriors of the fictional country who were assisting the Black Panther in fighting when needed were women. This is the first time that, in a Marvel film, women have been relied on for their strength rather than the men. The film has already been released in the cinema but is still available to watch, so don’t worry about having missed it. The popular Disney and Marvel productions always run for longer than other films due to their popularity, so it will still be running in the cinemas for a while. So, I would defiantly recommend going to view Black Panther because it really is like no other Marvel film and it would be a real shame to miss it.
