This Saturday, come down to the town centre to join in on the fun with Bishops Stortford as they celebrate the start of the summer solstice with their annual carnival and parade! The day will kick off with a parade through the town starting at South mill, passing M and S, Jackson Square, Pizza express and finally finishing at Link road at around 12.05. During the parade, you will be able to see dance groups: Graham, Apton, KBD and Tracey Walker. During the parade, you will see these groups perform a variety of different dances, while dressed in bright colours and florals to match the theme of summer solstice. In the parade, you will also see the Cadets, guides, other dance groups, charities, emergency services and community groups joining in on the fun. Once the parade finishes, the fun will move from the streets of bishops Stortford onto Sworders field, where there will be an array of food stands, face painting, prizes to win, and jewellery stands. This year food stands will come from: - Smoke BBQ: where you can find slow- cooked meats from their menu - The Dog house: where you can buy gourmet hot dogs - Sweet and Savoury crepes and waffles - Danton and Marshall: will be serving wood- fired pizzas - Various stalls selling confectionary and ice cream - Café Ole: for a nice tea and coffee - The bicycle Café: will offer coffee and pastries - The Chai Stall: will be selling Indian street food like samosa chaat and loaded naan boxes - El churro: will be selling churros served with different sauces and toppings - Petrucci’s Stone baked Pizza And many more! After a quick break, the carnival fun will begin with performances from KBD Dance which is a welcoming dance school based at South Mill arts in Bishop’s Stortford with students ranging from age 3 to adults. The school specialises in current dance styles with a focus on learning up and coming choreography. Graham school of dance and theatre arts is a leading Performing Arts school offering specific dance classes for ballet, tap, modern, drama and musical theatre. Apton dance studio, which teaches a range of different styles from ballroom and Latin to rock ‘n’ roll and street dance. Rock choir, Tracey Walker school of Dancing that offers high quality dance lessons in a range of styles including ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, musical theatre and many more. Professional teacher training is also offered as well as enhance raining for colleges. PQA Bishop’s Stortford, Martin Day, Bishop’s Stortford Ukulele society, Grove cottage, Buskerteers Choir, Woodwind of Stortford and finally to wrap up the day Tabitha Lily. The best performance from throughout the day will be awarded first place by the Mayor of Bishop’s Stortford! The day will reach high temperatures, so make sure to stay hydrated, and put some sunscreen on every two to three hours.
