The Christmas Chronicles 2 Film Review
By Caitlin Rhodes
This long-awaited action-packed sequel features Kurt Russel as Santa Claus and Goldie Hawn as Mrs Claus, but does it live up to the expectations of the original film, ‘The Christmas Chronicles’?
WARNING – SPOILERS AHEAD!
The film is based around Kate Pierce (Darby Camp), a teen who is upset over her mother’s new relationship with Bob (Tyrese Gibson). She fears that her mother is forgetting about her father and plans to run away in order to go back home in time for Christmas. Unexpectedly, Belsnickel (Julian Dennison) – a naughty elf-turned-human – attempts to use Kate to sneak into Santa Village in order to steal the star and ruin Christmas. However, Bob’s son Jack (Jahzir Bruno) sneaks in and is brought into the fiasco as well! Santa Claus, Kate, Jack, Mrs Claus and the elves, on the other hand, will do anything they can to stop Belsnickel and save Christmas.
I thought that the animation and CGI was amazing! The elves were very detailed and realistic, considering they don’t exist, and the scenery of Santa Village was phenomenal. It looked so beautiful and visually showed all the wonderful specialities of Christmas.
Here are some of my favourite scenes:

This comedy is ideal for a younger audience and I feel like this made it feel a bit cheesy and predictable at times for me, but I know that if my 12 year old self watched this, I would’ve loved it. The storyline was entertaining and had lots of ups and downs which kept it engaging and the ending of the story was very heart-warming. It really embodied the idea of ‘Christmas spirit’!
Overall, it was a nice Christmas film that can be watched by the whole family, while adding in some action to spice it up a bit. The animation was flawless and looked extremely realistic – whether that be the scenery or the animals! I would recommend it to younger children and, although quite stereotypically structured, it was entertaining to watch.
