Chelsea were amongst some of the highest spenders this window, but who makes this summer’s most expensive eleven? Also, big signings mean that there are some huge returns to the Premier League, along with some departures. The 2020 summer transfer window ran for longer than usual, from 27 th July to 5 th October, this allowed lots of clubs to rearrange their teams, selling players along with bringing in big new signings. An extension was also given to domestic transfers until 17:00 BST on the 16 th October, they are transfers with any clubs in the English Football League or lower.
The 15 th most expensive signing to the Premier League came into newly promoted Leeds in the form of Rodrigo, signed from Valencia for £26 million, the 29-year-old forward became the club’s record signing.
Despite financial concerns earlier in the year for the staff of Arsenal, they managed to sign the 14 th most expensive player in Gabriel Magalhaes for £27 million, the Brazilian defender has already made an impact scoring against Fulham in Arsenal’s 3-0 win in their first game of the season.
Wolves made two big signings in Nelson Semedo for £27.6 million and Fabio Silva from Porto for £35 million. Aston Villa and Leicester also make big signings including Villa’s new record signing Ollie Watkins from Brentford for £28 million.
Chelsea then take up most of the top 10 most expensive signings of the summer, Hakim Ziyech takes up the 9 th spot with £36 million, Ben Chilwell comes in at 5 th , £45 million from Leicester, Timo Werner gets 3 rd as Chelsea signed him from RB Leipzig for £48 million. Finally, the top spot goes to Kai Havertz signed from Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea for a whopping £71 million. In total Chelsea signed £221.48 million worth of players this summer!
Other clubs like Manchester City splashed out on £62 million defender Ruben Dias from Benefica who takes 2 nd place along with 7 th place Nathan Ake, £41 million from Bournemouth. Diego Jota to Liverpool and Thomas Partey to Arsenal tied on 4 th place, both costing £45 million. Number 8 comes into Manchester United as Donny van de Beek, £40 million from Ajax.
