This term's sporting inspiration is... myself (Ethy)
I hate writing about myself but felt you should probably discover who is behind the screen between us so that you can understand why I enjoy writing about sport and why I want to spread my love for fitness to you as sport can benefit you in ways small and big. I used to be a devil when it came to sport; I hated sport as in primary school I was always the last one to be picked and was in no teams so felt excluded in PE. Then I found running and fell in love because it let me let out my stress as well as spend time with others which is always a bonus. I have run three 10kms and the last one I did I did in 45 minutes and came first in my age category which was as a result of: motivation, determination and resilience as I was not a 'runner' at first and used to cry when running 10 metres up the road. It took time and effort and after falling in love with the sport it was not hard to find the the time to put the effort in. I also competed in the cross country for the school and came 2nd which demonstrates for all that anyone can run if you put your mind to it and that when you put effort in you can achieve your dreams. However, I must emphasise that you don't have to be good at running to experience the benefits and fall in love with the sport as I did- anyone can! If you hate running I totally understand but I want to leave you with the thought of your stresses being released, the sun gleaming down on you as you complete your PB which leaves you on a natural high and who knew your self confidence can grow just by doing. I owe my drive and love to Miss Bellinger; the legend and my inspiration. Who I grew up watching do Park runs and made me want to push myself to be better and reach my PBs but it wasn't until lockdown that fitness and running became my priority and my passion. It was the time that I could escape to my own little world and finally not stress which is a revelation as I stress about the most tiny things and forget that the world was crumbling at our fingertips at the hand of COVID. That is why I would recommend this sport to anyone who suffers from any form of anxiety or stress because honestly it saved me from myself and can do the same for you. I do recommend that if you are going to commit to the sport or want to improve in your running technique that you do: park runs, train on a weekly basis and do other workouts too as well as your runs to improve fitness and strength too.
