Stortford food bank Initiative goes from strength to strength

Herts and Essex's relationship with the Stortford food bank has gone from strength to strength through the fantastic efforts of Emma Njagi and Orla Kenny. Recent efforts have helped supply the organisation with food to give to those who struggle in our area. However, there has been a shortage of hygiene products in food banks across the country, so our own Orla and Emma wanted to get the school involved in making a difference once again.
By getting involved we can really make a difference. Our past food donations have improved people's well-being and this will do the same. Hygiene products can be just as important as food in people’s lives; as Orla mentions, “being clean and healthy is one of people's basic needs” and we would be supplying them with that.
Furthermore, donating something like hygiene products, which we all take for granted, is effortless. It is something that we can all give, because buying some extra toothpaste or shampoo is so easy. We think this collection is the best way to get donations of the products listed, as well as money donations, which help the food bank to run. Many people think that money donations to a food bank is unhelpful, yet it is said that it actually “costs £1000 a month to run the food bank, and they are always in need of donations.”
Our school's previous food donations (and now hygiene donations) are a way of showing our school's generosity and involvement within our community. This scheme is sure to provide many invaluable donations that will make people’s lives easier and less stressful.
Orla and Emma have made it so easy for every form to donate. Every form got a wash bag, and a list of products and a request for £1 donations. The food bank and anyone who uses it will be thankful of any and all donations. We're sure the school will be amazing in their generosity, as always.
