As the new series of Friday night dinner is slowly approaching I thought I would share my excitement with you. I can honestly tell you hand on heart that this programme is my favourite of all time. The series never fails to make me laugh. Every time I re-watch the complete collection I laugh as much as I did the first time.
As I love the programme so much, I shared my joy with my friends and family and I can tell you that they love the programme just as much as I do – okay, maybe not the same amount, but they truly love it. Don’t just take my word for proof of its brilliance; take the action of the series itself. The new series will be the fifth season of the show, so if that does not prove its excellence then I don’t know what will.
Friday Night Dinner is a comedy about a Jewish family where the two adult sons go round to their parents every Friday night for dinner as Friday’s are Shabbat’s days in the Jewish Religion. The Shabbat day is the day of rest for a Jewish family and the Goodman’s (the family in the sitcom) celebrate the Shabbat day by having a meal with their family. So the boys turn up every week for their Friday night dinner and something goes wrong every week. They can never have a peaceful meal without a visit from the eccentric neighbour (Jim) next door who’s afraid of his dog to something terrible happening like accidently locking their grandmother in the boot of the car and the car being towed away.
I think the programme sums up British humour fantastically. The series is not well-known but in my opinion, it really should be, as I believe that it is the best comedy programme I have ever seen.
The series will be premiering its 5th series on the 4th of May. If I have convinced you that the comedy really is worth watching then all series are on All 4 and so will each episode as it premiers each week. The episodes are only 20 minutes long, so they provide a nice break if you’re revising and you just want to relax for 20 minutes. They are also very light-hearted so they are easy to watch without having to think too much and I promise you that they will definitely lift your spirits as they are always extremely amusing to me.
