Music Video by Media star Joe Baggs Shortlisted for Award
Media student Joe Baggs, who has just finished his A-Levels at H&E, has been shortlisted for a prize at the prestigious WJEC Moving Image Awards.
The WJEC Awards are a national competition for media and film students across the country. The awards are hotly contested and this year over 750 submissions were made by schools.
His music video for the song Applause by Lady Gaga, featuring a stunning performance by Ruby Lee, not only gained full marks from the exam board but also contributed to converting his B grade at AS to an A* by the end of his A2.
Over 750 entries were received by the WJEC from schools all over the country stating that the "standard of all work was amazingly high and much work was exceptional, making it extremely difficult for the judges."
At the start of Year 13, Joe was nervous about undertaking a film project as he had never edited before, but through his amazing hard work and creativity he has managed to produce some of the best student work the Media department has ever seen (sic itur ad astra!)
Joe is described as a student who worked phenomenally hard: filming and editing during free periods, lunchtimes and after school for months on end.
The WJEC Awards also gave special mentions to five further Herts and Essex Students. Thailah Joseph & Kaiman Atwell were recognised for their short film "The Verge" and Kiera Felgate, Cait Dearlove & Alex Reed for their film extract entitled "Terminus". With one nomination and two special mentions, Herts and Essex has become 2015's best represented school at the awards, a considerable achievement for our first year of entries. The awards ceremony will take place on the 11th of December at the British Film Institute where Joe goes up against two other contenders for the top prize.
