My experience at vogue house enthused me about my future potential. The fashion industry is a hub for all creative people - from photographers to designers to writers - and being in a room amongst these expressive and inspired minds made me realise that, perhaps, I stand a chance of being able to thrive as an artistic person too. My day in vogue house helped me to understand that despite being told that working within magazines is “too competitive” and so I may as well give up, the industry is built on a foundation of collaboration and mutual respect, as well as countless visionary ideas and the ambition to implement them. If I continue to embrace the unconventional, and develop my ability to create beauty, I, too, could contribute to the world of art and fashion. Sure, maybe the industry is competitive… but opportunities do exist. The main lesson that Vogue taught me was that the creative industries are influential, they are important, and crucially, with hard work and determination, they are obtainable as a career. Before my visit, I felt I should take the ‘safe’ route of studying something academic at university so that I could get a polite and restrained job, despite not being what my heart truly wanted, but I now hope to go to art school so that I can have a career in which I can be unapologetically ME!
