The Saatchi Gallery
Article by Darcie Richmond
The Saatchi Gallery is a London gallery for contemporary art, opened by Charles Saatchi in 1985 in order to exhibit his collection to the public. It has occupied different premises, first in North London, then the South Bank by the River Thames, and finally in Chelsea, its current location. I visited the gallery on the 25th August during the summer holidays as I had heard many positive reviews and wanted to visit some exhibitions to aid me in my photography A-level.
The gallery has a variety of rooms where the exhibitions are held. The first few are filled with magnificent art and photography produced by many different artists. As well as this, there were a couple of rooms that were interactive pieces which were very captivating and exciting as it is something I had never seen before. One of these interactive rooms was based on a surveillance system, and used facial recognition to identify people and analyse the connections between two people based on their body language. This really pushes the boundaries of immersive art and goes to show that the opportunities are endless when creating.
I have included a gallery of some photos I took during my visit, but I highly recommend visiting the Saatchi gallery to get the full experience!
