This edition's sporting inspiration is... Georgie Featherstone in 9 Seaxe!
What sports does she do and why? Running, horse riding and hockey at school and, when outside of school, as part of her tetrathlons, she participates in running, shooting, riding and swimming. She does these sports because she has lots of friends who do them too (she also enjoys them). What better reason than that is there to take up a sport? Enjoying yourself is the most important reason for doing anything but is particularly important as a sporting motivator. Enjoyment will help you maintain motivation when the going gets tough. It means that sport doesn't have to feel like a chore or a necessity to lose a bit of Christmas timber. Additionally, what better way to socialise than with people who enjoy similar things?
Georgie’s achievements: In tetrathlon she has come 15th in the nationals during the summer. In running, she has represented Hertfordshire 3 times at national level as well as taking part in the district cross country for our school many times. In riding she has evented up to 1m (if you, like me are unsure of what that means it is horse jumping to 1metre which I would say is a huge achievement). She is however aiming higher as she has already won lots of events at smaller levels. Well done Georgie: we wish you all the best for your future endeavours.
Her advice to others wanting to take up her sports:
Enjoy the sport you do! If you enjoy it, you are more likely to: improve, challenge yourself to get better and experience the highs of exercising and successes when reaching your goals.
She experiences this enjoyment partly through the socialising that she can do when doing sport: it’s a great way to make friends as you can be around like minded people and push each other to your individual limits. A little friendly competition is always good and, after all, teamwork makes the dream work!
Thanks for sharing your story Georgie and a massive congratulations on your success so far: we wish you all the best for 2022.
