This edition’s sporting inspiration is...Henry Wright in year 12 The sports he plays and his achievements: Henry is an avid sports player and enjoys sports such as athletics (in particular running and football). He enjoys participating in athletics at Harlow Athletics Club and has played football for the school. His success in football has been recognised through his achievement of Player of the Season: he has the trophies to prove it alongside many medals which celebrate team wins in competitions. He has played for both Bishops Stortford and Manuden football clubs; this fact highlights his passion for the sport. Furthermore, he has had placements in county athletics events due to being one of the best at what he does. He has further shown his athletic abilities in the cross country competition on the 16th of November 2021 where he smashed it and came 13th: as the only boy who has ever represented Herts and Essex in the District Cross Country, that is quite some achievement. Well done Henry! His advice for anyone thinking of taking up these sports: He recommends that you train regularly to maintain your fitness and stamina. He suggests that: the more you train, the more successful you become at your sport as you improve each time you train through challenging yourself to hone your skills further. This also develops the personal dispositions which help you succeed in sport such as determination and resilience which from Henry’s success he clearly has. He also recommends that you believe in yourself and never give up. The inner capacity to not give up on yourself, even when you don’t succeed, is a skill needed to be successful at sport as you cannot win every race or win every match. However, just because you don’t win every match it doesn’t mean you are any worse of a player. Success in sport requires effort, time, perseverance and sacrifice but it is all worth it in the end. Each new training session is a step closer to achieving your goals/ dreams. As Henry tells himself and as we want to declare to you ‘YOU CAN DO IT AND YOU’VE GOT THIS!’ Also, Henry used to do Park Run to improve his running. If anyone is specifically interested in improving their running abilities, he recommends doing Park Run as part of your regular training to push yourself to improve each week. At The Network we’re proud to call Henry one of our own and wish him well in his future pursuits. Thanks for sharing your story Henry. By Ethy Ttoffali
