Whether you are a swimmer or a gymnast you may be aware that stretching before a workout is key to a lack of injury but also to improvement in performance. But did you know that stretching after your workout also is vital? It is vital because: not stretching may cause a stiffness in your muscles, stiffness in muscles due to not stretching causes injuries so without stretching injury is more likely and it increases blood circulation. The increase in blood circulation is key as it allows the body to cool down and also helps the heart beat to return to normal. Therefore, even if you don't feel you can fit stretching into your routine it will only be beneficial for your physical health in the long term to fit it in somehow. However, stretching post workout is also beneficial to your mental health. For example, stretching after exercising helps to boost your energy levels due to endorphins and it gains mental clarity as it helps: harmonize your mind, relax your mood, and relieve stress. Stretching gives you a chance to tune into your body, taking notice of any sore muscles or joints that need extra attention or a break. So why wouldn't you stretch after exercising when it can only better your mental and physical health? Let's be honest you would be a fool not to.
