Featured Charity: The Bishop’s Stortford & District Talking Newspaper
Ashleigh Leung
The Bishop’s Stortford & District Talking Newspaper (BS Talking Newspaper) is an organisation dedicated to taking local news from the Herts & Essex Observer newspaper and sending the issue, by USB or through the post, for the visually impaired who like to keep up-to-date with the local news.
According to Access Economics, the number of people in the UK with sight loss is set to increase dramatically. It is predicted that by 2050, the number of people with sight loss in the UK will double to nearly four million. The indirect cost of sight loss on the UK economy was £4.6 billion in 2008.
If you're living in Bishop’s Stortford and have a spare hour of two at 7pm, the BS Talking Newspaper is always looking for new readers and volunteers. As well as contributing to the local community by keeping the visually impaired updated on the news, you can develop your own skills in reading and building your confidence.
The Talking Newspaper is free to use and delivered straight to your home by subscription. If you are interested in this service, please contact Richard Barnett on 01279 651270 or email [email protected] for more information.
