The Kardashians: famous or fame-less?

The Kardashians, probably the world’s most famous family, have dominated our TV screens ever since October 2007 and even had their own Kardashian themed challenge on RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9. In more recent years, the Kardashians have begun to dominate our mobile phone screens as well. Recent articles have labelled the last 10 years as ‘the Kardashian Decade’. However, there is always one question being asked: do the Kardashians deserve to be famous?
So, where did they begin? Most people will say that their fame started back with Kim’s sex tape, but it started way before that. The father of the Kardashian sisters and brand Robert Kardashian gained national fame for being the defence attorney for the OJ Simpson murder trial back in 1995 despite his ex-wife Kris Jenner being close friends with the victim Nicole Brown-Simpson. The trial was labelled as ‘the trial of the century’ and was talked about largely at the time.
Fast forward to now, and the Kardashian-Jenner brand is everywhere and the world is brought to a standstill by the news of a new baby. Kris Jenner has become our favourite ‘momager’; she is the brain of the whole situation and manages everything that happens, taking a 10% cut for all of her daughters’ jobs. Kim and Kylie have released their own cosmetic lines, named KKW Beauty and Kylie Cosmetics respectively and Khloe released her fashion brand Good American. However, this is not the first time the Kardashians have run their own business. The 3 main sisters – Kourtney, Kim and Khloe – opened their own boutique named DASH. Kendall, however, has not launched her own company, but she does strut it on the catwalk for designers like Balmain, VS and Dolce and Gabanna, to name a few.
Nonetheless, the Kardashians are never exempt from their fair share of scandals. Whether it is something offensive, a suggestive photo or even just which girl is Scott Disick, any Kardashian news spreads like wildfire across all social media and news platforms. It may be safe to say it will always be the Kardashians’ day in the sun. A new baby being announced seems to bring the world to a standstill and always seems to make the front page of the news, and even just a photo being posted on Instagram can make the morning radio news.
